Plaza at Five Points

Few downtown Sarasota addresses are as literal about their location as this one. Plaza at Five Points occupies the block where Main Street, Central Avenue, and First Street converge at the historic Five Points intersection — the crossing that has organized downtown since the city's earliest days. The tower was developed by Houston-based Ersa Grae Corporation, designed by Sarasota's ADP Group Inc., and built by Kraft Construction, breaking ground in October 2003 and finishing in June 2005 as a significant mixed-use project for its era. The building's structure tells you how it lives: retail, offices, and secured parking fill the lower nine levels, while the 50 residences occupy the top seven floors — lifting every home well above the street and opening views across downtown rooftops toward Sarasota Bay. That podium includes about 87,000 square feet of Class A office space and more than 14,000 square feet of retail, so the building participates in downtown's daily rhythm rather than merely overlooking it. Two decades on, Plaza at Five Points remains one of the established names in the downtown core, prized for a walk-to-everything position that newer towers farther from Main Street cannot quite replicate.

The 50 residences begin roughly ten stories up, spread across the tower's top seven floors. Floor plans run from about 1,600 square feet to more than 4,100 square feet in two- and three-bedroom configurations, with larger combined and penthouse-scale layouts at the top. Original finishes reflected the building's mid-2000s pedigree — European-style cabinetry, granite counters, and stainless appliances — and many homes have since been renovated to current tastes, so interiors vary from classic to fully contemporary. Because the residential floors sit atop a nine-level commercial podium, even the lowest homes enjoy elevated outlooks; higher floors look over the surrounding rooftops toward the bay to the west and the city grid to the east.

The amenity level centers on a heated rooftop pool and spa with a sundeck positioned for skyline and bay views, joined by an outdoor grilling area and a screened cabana with fireplace. Inside, residents have a fitness center, a club room with catering kitchen, fireplace, and wet bar, a boardroom and library for quiet work, and a private guest suite for visiting company. Concierge service — described by building profiles as 24-hour — plus on-site management, valet and secured garage parking, and climate-controlled storage round out the services. The association permits up to two pets per residence, each up to 35 pounds.

Days here are organized on foot. Morning coffee comes from a Main Street café, with the paper read on a bench in Five Points Park; errands mean a one-block walk to Whole Foods rather than a drive. Evenings might start with a gallery opening on Palm Avenue, continue to a performance at the Sarasota Opera House or a film downtown, and end at a restaurant a few doors from home. Weekends leave room for the bayfront — a walk past Marina Jack's docks, sunset over the mooring field — before the elevator carries you back above it all to the rooftop pool deck. It is downtown Sarasota lived at its original crossroads.
